Play Therapy is a psychotherapeutic technique primarily used to help children (3-12) discover their repressed thoughts and emotions through an assisted supportive play setting.
A therapeutic play session takes place in a safe and comfortable playroom, where few rules or limits are imposed on the child, that encourage freedom of expression, allowing the therapist to observe a child's choices, decisions and playing style.
Play Therapy aims to achieve two goals:
1. Help parents understand and deal with their children's emotions and behaviors.
2. Teach children to better deal with their psycho-emotional challenges, learn positive ways to solve their problems and learn adaptive behavior.
Problems I can mainly help with are:
• Problems expressing feelings such as sadness, fear or anger
• A negative self-image (low self-esteem)
• Suffering from unpleasant events (nightmares, fears or trauma)
• Attachment problems
• Difficulty on dealing with pairs, not being able to play together
• Bullying or withdrawn behavior
