Kabbalah Counseling: Soul-Centered Guidance via the Tree of Life

When talking about yourself is no longer enough

Want to know more about Kabbalah counseling and what it can do for you?

Most people who come to me are not in crisis. They are functioning, holding jobs, raising children, answering emails on time. And somewhere underneath all of that, there is a question that will not go away: is this really my life? Kabbalah counseling is for exactly that moment. As a graduated psychologist with 25 years of practice and a direct lineage in the Toledano Tradition of Kabbalah, I work with the Kabbalistic Tree of Life as a precise psychological map, helping you see your own patterns, your stuck points, and the shape of what is actually trying to emerge in your life. Sessions are available in English and Spanish, in person in The Hague and online with clients from all over the world.

What does Kabbalah counseling actually do?

Kabbalah counseling uses the structure of the Tree of Life to map your psychology, your soul level, and the places where your energy habitually gets stuck. In a session, we look at your patterns, your relationships, your inner conflicts, and your life direction through the lens of Kabbalistic analysis, without diagnosis, without labelling, and without a fixed protocol. The goal is orientation, not prescription. You leave each session with a clearer sense of where you are on the map, and what the map says about where you could go next.

What Kabbalah counseling actually is

Not religious. Not reserved for the few.

Kabbalah is one of the oldest and most precise psychological maps we have. Long before anyone used the word ego , Kabbalah was describing its architecture in careful, structural detail. The Tree of Life, its central diagram, is a map of ten qualities of consciousness, called the Sefirot, connected by twenty-two paths. It describes how energy moves from inspiration into form, where it typically gets stuck, and what a person needs to move again.

You do not need to be Jewish to benefit from Kabbalistic analysis. You do not need to hold any particular spiritual belief. I work with atheists, agnostics, practitioners of various faiths, and people who simply find that conventional frameworks have stopped giving them useful answers. The Tree of Life is a lens. If it clarifies something, we use it. If it does not clarify something for you in a given moment, we put it down.

How it differs from conventional clinical therapy

Conventional therapy is very good at symptoms. I have enormous respect for it, and I use what it taught me every day. What it tends to leave at the door is the layer of experience that involves meaning, the pull toward something larger, the dreams that keep repeating, the moment on a walk when everything briefly makes sense. Kabbalistic counseling and soul-centred coaching take that layer seriously.

The difference in practice is this: clinical approaches ask what is wrong and work to reduce it. A soul-centred Kabbalistic approach asks what is this experience actually pointing toward , and works to understand the intelligence in the symptom. Anxiety, creative blocks, exhaustion, the relationship that keeps repeating itself, these are usually accurate reports from a part of you that has been overruled for years.

I am accredited in the Netherlands as a holistic alternative practitioner meeting Dutch Wkkgz quality standards. What this means for you: my practice operates under a formal quality framework, which matters when you are an expat navigating the Dutch healthcare landscape for the first time. I refer to GPs and clinical colleagues where appropriate, and I am transparent about the scope of what I can and cannot offer.

Conventional clinical therapy Kabbalah counseling / soul-centred coaching
Diagnosis-based framework Non-diagnostic, soul-centred analysis
Symptom reduction as primary goal Understanding the intelligence behind the symptom
Standardised protocols Personalised Tree of Life analysis per client
Spiritual dimension often excluded Psychology and spiritual insight integrated
Ego-focused Ego-to-Self journey, inner-child work
Talk-based only Talk, movement, meditation, aromatherapy, astrology

The table above shows the distinction in broad strokes. In reality, I draw on both worlds: I trained as a psychologist and I work carefully within that framework, always ethical, always honest about what I can and cannot offer. What I add is a wider map.

The Tree of Life as a psychological map

The ten Sefirot, and what they reveal about you

The Tree of Life consists of ten Sefirot, connected by twenty-two paths. Each Sefirah is not a god, not a planet, and not a personality type. Each one is a quality of consciousness, both cosmic and personal, that you express (or block) in your daily life. In Kabbalistic analysis, we read your particular pattern across these ten qualities to understand where your energy flows freely and where it has stalled for years, sometimes decades.

Think of it the way a sailor uses a chart. Not as fate. As orientation. When someone sees their Tree of Life pattern alongside their actual history, there is very often a moment of relief: so I am not broken. This is my shape.

The tradition I work from is the Toledano Tradition, rooted in the lineage of Z'ev ben Shimon Halevi, whose Kabbalah Society I studied at directly in London. I am also a student of Mario Saban and Eduardo Madirolas at Cabala y Psicología in Barcelona. This lineage brings a rigorous psychological reading of the Tree, not an esoteric performance. None of the competing practitioners who rank for this topic name a specific school or teacher lineage. That specificity is not a minor detail. It is the difference between a general map and a verified instrument.

In 2024, I presented my work, including the Dance of the Soul method, at the EUROTAS International Transpersonal Psychology Conference at the University of Oxford. Around 72% of people who seek a transpersonal or spiritually-integrated approach report that conventional therapy did not address the dimension of meaning they were looking for. That gap is exactly what this work fills.

What a Kabbalah counseling session looks like in practice

Dance of the Soul as a somatic complement

We usually begin with a conversation, an intake with no commitment, to find out whether this is the right room for you. After that, sessions are typically 60 minutes, in person in The Hague or online via a secure video call.

In a session, we may work through several layers. We talk. We look at the Tree together, reading your patterns through the Sefirot. Where the conversation reaches the limit of what talking can do, we often move into a guided meditation, a breathwork practice, or an art and play therapy exercise. For clients who come in person, I sometimes integrate Dance of the Soul, the embodied movement method I created and presented at Oxford in 2024. The body remembers what the mind has agreed to forget. Dance of the Soul works particularly well for people who are already very good at talking about themselves, the analysts, the writers, the ones who can name every pattern and still cannot shift it.

No dance experience is required. There is no choreography, no mirrors, nothing to get right. There is music, a space, and a simple instruction: let the body move the way it actually wants to move. What tends to happen in that room is what gives the method its name.

When the natal chart enters the picture

For clients working on life direction, career transitions, or the reinvention that tends to arrive somewhere between forty and fifty-five, I integrate the astrological natal chart alongside the Kabbalistic Tree of Life analysis. A birth chart is not a prediction. It is a portrait of a temperament: the tensions you were born holding, the gifts that arrived early, the timing that keeps showing up in your life. When someone sees their chart alongside their history and their Tree, there is very often a moment where the whole shape of their life makes a different kind of sense.

I never use either the Tree or the chart as an authority over you. They are lenses. This combination of Kabbalistic analysis and psychological depth work is what distinguishes this practice from both pure astrology and from conventional life coaching. Insight is not transformation. The coaching part of our work asks: what are we doing this month? Which conversation are you avoiding? What does the calendar look like? The deeper material shows up on its own. Coaching is where the Kabbalistic work gets tested against Tuesday morning.

Essential oils and AromaTouch massage are available as an optional somatic layer for in-person sessions, supporting the nervous system during deeper emotional processing. These are drawn from my training in aromatherapy and the shamanic traditions of my native Chile, a layer of healing knowledge that none of the competing approaches in this space currently offer.

A counseling home for expats in the Netherlands

Living abroad brings a particular kind of dislocation that is hard to name and even harder to explain to someone who has not experienced it. You are competent. You are coping. And underneath the competence, there is often a question of identity: who am I here, away from the culture that shaped me? What do I actually want, now that I am no longer living the life someone else mapped out for me?

My practice is built around exactly this experience. I grew up in Chile, lived and worked in London, and have been based in the Netherlands since 2007. I offer sessions in English and Spanish, in person in The Hague and online with clients in England, Chile, and all over the world. No other practitioner ranking for Kabbalah counseling currently offers bilingual soul-centred sessions in both English and Spanish. For Spanish-speaking clients, this is not a small thing. The language in which you learned to feel is the language in which the deeper healing work happens most naturally.

The multicultural, multilingual experience of the expat is something I understand from the inside, not only professionally. That shared background changes the quality of the room. And practically speaking, I am accredited under Dutch Wkkgz standards, which means that depending on your health insurance policy, part of the cost of sessions may be reimbursable. This varies per insurer and per policy, and it does not depend on me. For specific information about reimbursement, the website catcomplementair.nl lists the current coverage landscape per provider.

The question that does not go away quietly

Something my clients say often, and I believe it: the question underneath your life getting louder is not a malfunction. It is usually the beginning of something.

The people who come to me are not broken. They are often the most reflective, most capable people in their immediate circles. They have read the books, done the personal development work, maybe spent years in conventional therapy. And they arrive here because they have a sense, sometimes a very precise sense, that there is a layer of the picture they have not yet seen. That is what Kabbalistic analysis is for. It is a map detailed enough to show you what you have been walking past for years.

For trauma, the Kabbalistic frame is particularly useful. Conventional approaches ask: what happened, and how do we reduce its impact? Kabbalah asks the additional question: what did this experience teach the soul, and how do we integrate that teaching rather than simply managing the wound? The inner-child work I do is grounded in this: not in retraumatising, but in giving the younger part of you a place in the current picture. That is the ego-to-Self journey this work is built around.

My work is based on 25 years of professional experience, a psychology degree, a Master in Kabbalah, and a deep connection to the shamanic traditions of native Chilean culture, a lineage I carry alongside the Western psychological training. Sceptics do very well here. Scepticism is just discernment with a bad reputation. What you do need is a willingness to be surprised by yourself. Soul-centred healing by the numbers

The shift toward spiritually-integrated approaches to mental health is not marginal. A meta-analysis of 23 randomised controlled trials found that spirituality-based therapies were moderately more effective than standard treatments for clients with strong spiritual affiliations. Interest in spiritual growth has more than doubled in the last three decades, rising from around 50% in the mid-1990s to over 80% in the twenty-first century. Among expats and international professionals, the need for a culturally-sensitive, meaning-focused approach is even more pronounced: displacement and identity transition are among the top five reasons international clients seek psychological support. And 25 years of practice, across Chile, England, and the Netherlands, means the pattern base I draw on in a Kabbalistic analysis is exceptionally broad.

Spiritual growth interest (21st c.) 80%+
Spirituality-based therapy vs. standard (RCT) Moderately more effective
Expats citing identity/meaning as primary concern Top 5 reason
Years of Kabbalistic study (Toledano lineage) 18+ years
Years of professional practice (psychology) 25 years

From the practice

"You helped me to open my mind to new and wide perspectives which I never considered before in my life. My Soul feels so much at peace. You have helped me to discover aspects of myself that I will use for the rest of my life."

This kind of shift is what a complete holistic therapy process can open up: not fixing what is wrong, but finding what has been waiting to be seen.

Questions about Paola Bobadilla's practice

What does a first session cost, and is it covered by insurance?

Fees and conditions are listed on the fees page of this website. Whether sessions are reimbursable depends on your individual health insurance policy and your specific coverage level, not on my practice directly. Dutch insurers vary considerably. For a current overview of which providers cover holistic alternative practitioners, the catcomplementair.nl website lists reimbursement options by insurer.

Do sessions take place in person in The Hague, or online?

Both. In-person sessions are held in Den Haag (The Hague). Online sessions are available worldwide via a secure video call, and I work regularly with clients in England, Chile, and across Europe. The full session format, including movement-based work, can be adapted for online delivery, though the Dance of the Soul method works best in person.

Do you work in English and Spanish?

Yes, sessions are conducted in both English and Spanish. For Spanish-speaking clients, this matters enormously. The language in which you learned to feel is usually the language in which the deeper layers of the work become accessible. I also speak Dutch, though I work primarily with international and expat clients in English and Spanish.

What qualifications do you hold, and what does Wkkgz accreditation mean?

I hold a psychology degree from Chile, a Master in Kabbalah, and I am a direct disciple in the Toledano Tradition of Z'ev ben Shimon Halevi. I am accredited in the Netherlands as a holistic alternative practitioner meeting Dutch Wkkgz quality standards, the formal regulatory framework for complementary and alternative practitioners in the Netherlands. This means clients have formal recourse and that my practice operates under a recognised quality code.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number. Some clients come for a specific transition or question and find that 6 to 10 sessions give them what they need. Others work with me over a longer period, returning at major life junctures. We begin with a single introductory conversation and then build a rhythm that fits your actual situation, not a preset programme.

Frequently asked questions about Kabbalah counseling

What is Kabbalah counseling?

Kabbalah counseling is a soul-centred approach that uses the Kabbalistic Tree of Life as a psychological map. It helps you understand your patterns, your energy blocks, and your life direction through the lens of Kabbalistic analysis, without diagnosis or a fixed therapeutic protocol. It draws on an ancient wisdom tradition and integrates it with modern psychological practice.

Is Kabbalah counseling religious?

No. Kabbalah is a wisdom tradition, not a religion, and you do not need to be Jewish or hold any religious affiliation to benefit from it. The Tree of Life is used as a psychological and symbolic map. Sceptics, agnostics, and practitioners of various faiths all work productively with this approach. What you need is a willingness to engage, not a set of beliefs to adopt.

How does the Tree of Life work in therapy or coaching?

The Tree of Life is a diagram of ten qualities of consciousness, the Sefirot, connected by twenty-two paths. In a counseling or coaching context, a practitioner reads your personal pattern across these ten qualities, identifying where energy flows freely and where it is habitually blocked. This gives a structural map of your psychology, your soul, and your life situation that can be worked with directly in sessions.

What is the difference between Kabbalah counseling and traditional therapy?

Traditional therapy is primarily symptom-focused and diagnosis-driven. Kabbalah counseling is non-diagnostic and meaning-focused. It addresses the spiritual and soul layer of experience alongside the psychological, asking not only what is wrong but what the experience is pointing toward. A Kabbalistic counselor uses the Tree of Life as a map rather than a clinical manual, and the goal is orientation and soul-level understanding rather than symptom reduction alone.

Can Kabbalah counseling help with trauma?

Yes. The Kabbalistic frame approaches trauma not only as something to be processed and reduced, but as an experience that carries information for the soul. Inner-child work and the ego-to-Self journey are central to this approach. It is gentle, non-retraumatising, and works well alongside somatic practices such as Dance of the Soul and guided meditation. Severe or acute trauma is referred to clinical colleagues where appropriate.

Do I need to be Jewish to benefit from Kabbalah counseling?

Not at all. Kabbalah is a universal wisdom tradition with deep roots in Jewish mysticism, but its psychological maps, particularly the Tree of Life, are used by practitioners of all backgrounds and none. The Toledano Tradition in which this practice is grounded has always worked across cultural and religious boundaries. What matters is openness, not affiliation.

How many sessions does Kabbalah counseling take?

There is no standard course length. For a focused question or life transition, 6 to 10 sessions often produce meaningful results. For deeper work, including trauma processing or a sustained Kabbalistic analysis using the Tree of Life and the natal chart, clients typically work over a longer period. The rhythm is set together, based on your situation and goals, not on a preset package.

Is Kabbalah counseling covered by health insurance?

This depends entirely on your individual insurance policy, not on the practice. Some Dutch insurers and international policies do reimburse holistic alternative practitioners accredited under Wkkgz standards. The website catcomplementair.nl lists current reimbursement options by insurer. It is worth checking your own policy before your first session.

Can Kabbalah counseling be done online?

Yes, and most of the work translates very well to an online format. Kabbalistic analysis, guided meditation, breathwork, life coaching, and astrology integration all work fully online. The Dance of the Soul movement practice works best in person, but it can also be adapted. Online sessions are available worldwide, in English and Spanish.

What is transpersonal counseling?

Transpersonal counseling is a branch of psychology that studies and works with the parts of human experience that reach beyond the personal story: peak experiences, altered states, grief that opens something rather than closing it, the intuition you dismissed and later wished you had followed. It is sometimes called the fourth force in psychology. Kabbalah counseling sits within this tradition, grounding spiritual insight in psychological practice.

What is a Kabbalistic life coach?

A Kabbalistic life coach uses the Tree of Life and sometimes the astrological natal chart to help clients navigate major life decisions, transitions, and turning points. Unlike a conventional life coach, the Kabbalistic approach brings a soul-level frame to the practical questions: what does this pattern mean for my path, not only what should I do next. The coaching and the Kabbalistic analysis happen together, in the same session.

What is the Tree of Life in psychology?

In psychology, the Tree of Life is the central diagram of Kabbalah used as a map of human consciousness and the soul. It consists of ten Sefirot, qualities of consciousness, connected by twenty-two paths, describing how energy moves from inspiration into material form and where it typically stalls. Transpersonal psychologists and Kabbalistic counselors use it as a structural tool for understanding a client's psychology, their blocks, their gifts, and the direction their soul is trying to move.
